Books by Emma McEwin
The Many Lives of Douglas Mawson
In this book, Emma McEwin, Mawson’s great-granddaughter, reflects on her forebear’s public and private persona. Inspired by letters, portraits and other material traces of his legacy, she writes intimately about his effect on generations of his family and the making and unmaking of myths about him. An Antarctic Affair
In this book Emma McEwin has written the story of the long relationship between Mawson and his wife, Paquita. Mawson is well known as the famous Antarctic explorer and eminent scientist but Emma McEwin says he was also a warm, romantic man with a deep love for his life partner Paquita For great-granddaughter Emma the most compelling part of Mawson's life was the love story between him and Paquita, and she spent six years researching their lives for her book. The Antarctic permeated their lives, even their wedding had an Antarctic theme, with an iceberg on the wedding cake and sugar penguins for the guests.
